Новизна заключается в том, что в этом случае проводником сатиры становится группа персонажей, обладающих не только выразительностью в данный конкретный момент, но и подлинной психологической и романической глубиной. К ним привязываешься, как к настоящим героям романа, которые живут, стареют и умирают у нас на глазах, пряча свои страхи и боль за постоянными шутками. Можно сказать, что это интимное и немного патологическое измерение существовало в итальянской комедии с самого начала (см. Обгон, Il Sorpasso), но в Моих друзьях оно становится еще содержательнее и разрастается до своеобразного похоронного плача, в конечном счете напоминающего Большую жратву, La Grande bouffe, вышедшую 2 годами ранее (с участием 2 актеров из этого фильма: Нуаре и Тоньяцци). Они подбираются либо среди близких (и тогда жестокость фильма достигает кульминации), подтверждением чему служит великолепная работа Милены Вукотич в роли несчастной супруги Тоньяцци, то среди совершенно незнакомых людей, чьи траектории лишь на короткое мгновение пересекаются с траекториями главных героев: один из таких людей - уморительный Риги, отставной мелкий чиновник, которого 5 друзей якобы втягивают в торговлю наркотиками. Его играет Бернар Блие в расцвете актерской формы, и эта роль - одна из самых необыкновенных работ во всей его богатой итальянской фильмографии. Отметим, что фильм полностью отвечает духу своего времени. Его жестокость и мрачность совершенно совпадали с ожиданиями публики. Мои друзья стали самым кассовым фильмом года в Италии, во Франции их также ждал оглушительный успех. Сложно сказать, могло ли бы это случиться в наши дни.N.В. У фильма есть 2 продолжения.
